Where to experience live music in Shrewsbury

The music scene in Shrewsbury is vibrant, diverse and exciting! From small intimate gigs through to world-class festivals, you'll never be short of chance to experience the best of live music in our town.

Perhaps Shrewsbury’s premier live music venue, Albert’s Shed has a weekly calendar bursting with acts. Get your guitars ready for Tuesday’s open mic Jam Night and warm up those vocal cords for Thursday’s Karaoke night. On Wednesdays, Friday and Saturdays you’ll be blown away by local acts, DJs, cover acts and more!

A relaxed wine bar, Ashley’s is a hub for entertainment. Here you’ll find live acts every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, and make sure not to miss their popular Northern Soul Sundays, which is the last Sunday of every month.

Serving food, real ale and lots of live acts, The Bull Inn is popular amongst Shrewsbury residents and visitors alike! Whether you prefer funk, fusion, rockabilly or rock n roll; you’ll find all genres at The Bull Inn. And make sure to check out their Wednesday night open mic night – with a free drink for all performers!

Popular town centre bar Oil brings the funk to Shrewsbury with a mixed line-up of DJs, rock, soul and funk in the spotlight every month. You can show off your stuff here, too, at one of their basement jam sessions.

Over the Welsh Bridge, The Wheatsheaf Frankwell is well known for its live music mini-festivals such as this spring's Reggae Resurrection.

SY.Gigs

Founded in 2022, SY.Gigs has helped develop Shrewsbury's alternative music scene from small scene to national favourite among alt reviewers and performers in recent years. Founder Chris Taylor brings alternative artists from around the world to perform in Shrewsbury's historic churches.

Live in the House

Over the last 10 years, Live in the House has hosted more than 400 shows at historic and iconic venues in and around Shropshire.

It began with a sell out show by the Ivor Novello award winning Scott Matthews at Henry Tudor House in Shrewsbury. Now, the Live in the House team continue to explore great shows in great places, including churches and Shrewsbury's historic abbey.

Shropshire’s biggest entertainment venue, The Buttermarket has an extensive schedule of bands, cover artists and DJs; perfect for your night out. For those with a more classically inclined ear, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for their unique Wurlitzer Theatre Organ recitals (pictured above).

Shrewsbury's theatrical hub, Theatre Severn attracts big names from across the country. Here you can enjoy tribute acts, choirs, opera performances and more in their purpose-built theatre.

The Shropshire Music Trust brings the best of classical, contemporary and world music to communities in Shropshire. The 2024-25 season included: the Dante Quartet, pianist Alim Beisembayev, the Carducci Quartet, the Julian Bliss Septet, Ex Cathedra and Royal Harpist Alis Huws, among others.
