Sian's Success Story
Sian Van Beek Roberts started Dwtylife almost by accident.
When she was in her 20s, her lifestyle and stress levels began having a serious impact on her wellbeing, leading to chronic pain, multiple hospitalisations, and making it impossible to continue living life as she knew it.
The treatments the doctors provided addressed her symptoms, but not why she was becoming ill.
Desperate to find the solution and find a way to enjoy life again, and recognising the negative patterns that were contributing to her ill physical and mental health, she began a healing journey.
Three pillars, more than any others, supported her recovery: yoga, gratitude practices and joyful living.
It was from this discovery that Dwtylife developed. We asked her for the lowdown about her business, life and work in Shrewsbury, and what the future holds!
What is Dwtylife?
I founded Dwtylife on a mission to share with the world the truth about happiness, that it’s not rocket-science to achieve, and most of all the simple lessons and teachings that guided me on my way.
My mission is simple: to guide people back to happiness. Not the kind sold to us, but real happiness that lasts. Through gratitude, yoga and joyful living, I help everyday people rediscover the simple joy of being alive.
Dwtylife to date
Over the past two years, I have reached over 400 people face-to-face and held over fifty community workshops. Last year, with the help of a Work in Shrewsbury grant through the Evolving Business Cohort, we delivered the first Happier Festival at The Flaxmill, which brought together fifty businesses and 240 guests.
In the future...
I’m working towards doing more with schools, especially secondary and sixth form age. I’m also keen to provide support for people in the workplace - because happier people are more resilient, creative, outgoing, and better at working with others.
I'm offering workplace yoga, wellbeing workshops and corporate retreat & reset days.
Why Shrewsbury?
Instead of going to university, I moved to Shrewsbury at 19, attracted by the nightlife, coffee culture, and chances to meet new people. I love how community-centric Shrewsbury is, with a huge number of classes, clubs and events going on all year round to foster connection.
Shrewsbury is a creative town and really nurtures different arts and styles - I guess the beauty of the town inspires creativity. There is always a sense of community support, too, with countless people who want to help, whatever you're doing – the town wants you to succeed!
The support provided through the Evolving Business Cohort is a great example of just that.
Day Out
A trip to the Long Mynd, which is only 20 minutes from Shrewsbury and is an Area of Natural Beauty (AONB) and nature reserve. I'd also squeeze in a cold swim in the river, or one of the ponds nearby!
Hidden Gem
Shrewsbury has such an amazing pub culture - and I feel like it flies under the radar!
Shop
Too many to choose from! I love Snoop, Badu, Little Shop of Joy, Nimble Thimble... all gems.
Neighbourhood
