Veterinary surgeon shrewsbury

Job Information

4-day week. 24-hour hospital medicine. Purpose-led veterinary care.

If you want your clinical skills to genuinely matter again.

If you are an experienced veterinary surgeon who still loves medicine, but wants more variety, more support, and a role that aligns with your values, this could be the role that restores that spark.

The Opportunity

We are working with a large, well-established 24-hour veterinary hospital in Shrewsbury, that has built something refreshingly different. This is not a practice driven by targets or upselling, but one focused on delivering excellent medicine in a way that is sustainable for both pets and people.

They are looking for an established Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys a broad caseload and wants to keep developing. You will be joining a team that actively encourages learning, discussion, and collaboration, without hierarchy or ego.

This is a hospital where you can practice proper medicine, supported by experienced colleagues, modern facilities, and a structure that allows you to focus on doing the job well.

Why This Role Is Different

A genuine hospital environment

This is a 24-hour facility with dedicated staff managing inpatients and emergencies, allowing vets to focus on clinical decision-making rather than firefighting. The hospital includes two theatre suites, one dedicated to advanced surgery, a full dental suite, and separate dog and cat wards, reflecting a strong commitment to feline-friendly care.

Interesting, varied clinical work

You will see a wide mix of cases including soft tissue and orthopaedics, supported by an advanced clinical team that includes surgical certificate holders. If you enjoy complex cases and learning from experienced colleagues, this environment will stretch you in the right way.

A culture without hierarchy

The team operates without rigid hierarchy. Everyone’s input is valued, from new starters to senior clinicians. Decisions are collaborative, and the focus is always on what is best for the patient, not who is most senior.

Values-led veterinary care

As a Community Interest Company, the organisation exists to ensure pets are not denied treatment due to cost. Free consultations and transparent pricing remove barriers to care and allow vets to practice ethically, without compromising clinical standards.
