Shrewsbury Ranked West Midlands’ Top Retail Centre in 2025

We are excited to share that Shrewsbury has been ranked first in the West Midlands for town centre vitality - outperforming big shots like Birmingham Central, Stratford-Upon-Avon, and Leamington Spa!

This annual report assesses the retail health of town and city centres across the UK, measuring factors such as footfall, vacancy rates, occupier mix, and consumer demand. Not only did Shrewsbury make number one in the West Midlands, but was ranked third overall for large towns nationwide.

This is in no doubt thanks to Shrewsbury’s unique character as a historic market town that celebrates independent businesses with the most experiential offerings. 

From individual and diverse cafés, to quirky shops sprinkled throughout the town and a cosy pub or chic bar on nearly every street, this achievement is down to the businesses working tirelessly to attract visitors, investment and opportunity all year round.
